I appreciate your patience!
The Retrokid is now available from Amazon!
The last month has been hectic as I finalized my first book. As noted, there was some cleanup I had to attend to, and then there were all the packaging and publishing steps. It’s rather straightforward now that I look at it all, but the initial list of tasks and steps was overwhelming. There didn’t seem to be any straightforward questions that I could answer without researching or seeking advice. Maybe I got it right the first time, but there’s a chance I’ll have to make some corrections —not with the book itself (I’m 99.9% sure!) but with how it’s uploaded or configured. I will document the process eventually, and I hope it will help someone else in the future.
In the meantime, here are some quick notes for anyone curious:
- Fed up with Scrivener’s compile functionality, I bought and used Vellum. I love Scrivener, but creating the ebooks was bad enough. However, trying to compile for print nearly broke my brain (and I have a software development background!).
- I’ve been using ChatGPT for read-back. It’s amazing and scary. In my (admittedly short) experience with AI, I’ve never experienced such a high rate of hallucinations. The techie in me is in awe of these breakdowns, but the human part feels irrelevant. More to come on that.
- As you may have noticed, I’ve decided to jump into print. It will require additional cover work, but it will be worth it!
Again, thank you all for your patience and support! Books 2 and 3 are just waiting for their final prep. The first draft of 4 has been completed for a while now, and I may work on the second draft before publishing the next book. Or, if I’m feeling ambitious, I may work on them in parallel. That might be tough on a part-time schedule, but where there’s a will, there’s a way.
